SA connections at intl film festival
For the 2009 Strasbourg International Film Festival, 50 feature-length films were selected, representing 37 countries with 31 first-time filmmakers. In addition, two of the over 160 short films selected for screening are South African.
The festival runs August 28 - September 6 in Strasbourg, France and Kehl, Germany.
Gargoyle, directed by Kelsey Egan of 1st Project - 25 minutes - 2009. A security guard by day, Themba supplements his meagre income with crime in order to support his younger brother, only to discover that his most recent victim is his brother's favourite teacher - French Premiere.
Miss Sgodiphola, directed by Andy Kasrils of 1st Project 12 minutes - 2008. It's a sunny Saturday afternoon in Sgodiphola and the local beauty pageant is under way. Innocentia surprises herself by reaching the final stage and must now compete for the title against stunning Precious. However, it's going to take more than answering the regular questions to gain the title of “Miss Sgodiphola”. Featuring acting performances from South Africa's most popular township music artists, Miss Sgodiphola is a wild, fun ride into Soweto community culture - French Premiere.
