Enterprises UP celebrates GSTM and Executive Education delegates
The University of Pretoria’s (UP) Graduate School of Technology Management (GSTM) and Gordons Institute of Business Science (GIBS) celebrated its delegates who successfully completed programmes including the Programme in Project Management, Programme in Engineering Management, Senior Management Programme and the Management Development Programme.
Professor Elma van der Lingen, the HOD: Graduate School of Technology Management, opened the ceremony. She congratulated the delegates on their achievements and also thanked the families and friends for their support.
The keynote speech was delivered by Dr George Maluleke, General Manager: Projects at Anglo American. Dr Maluleke is both a mining professional and an accomplished scholar with an understanding of the dedication required to complete such challenging programmes.
Dr Maluleke started off by saluting the class of 2018/2019. “You did it!” he said. “Of the 27.6 per cent of South Africans that are unemployed today, almost 90 per cent of them have not had the opportunity to be honored like you will be today. That just drives the message that education is a missing ingredient amongst our youth. If it was not for education, you would not be where you are today.”
“Today, this great team of academics [making reference to the course leaders and the lecturers] are going to provide you with something different. I want you to think about what you are going to do with that, not only to address your individual economic success but to make a difference in our country”.
The leadership and development programmes celebrated on the evening make a direct contribution to the development and growth of business leaders. The programmes run part-time over the course of a year teaching functional management and transformational leadership.
The Programme in Project Management (PPM) is one of the most sought-after industry certifications available today. It has been developing practical project managers for the past 23 years. It is presented by various subject specialists and thought leaders that teach Africa’s only master’s degree programme accredited by the Global Accreditation Centre of the Project Management Institute (PMI). This unique training experience provides you with up-to-date methods to excel, enriched by our two decades of excellence in skills development.
The Management Development Programme develops managers’ skills at middle-management level to perform their management responsibilities in a more effective and efficient manner within a changing and competitive business environment. Throughout this programme, you will acquire the competencies needed to deal with various contemporary South African management challenges while focusing on functional and cross-functional business processes.
