Survey finds Joburgers most adventurous

A national adventure survey conducted on over 10 000 South Africans by Captain Morgan Black, has found that people in Gauteng are almost 50 percent more adventurous than their counterparts in KwaZulu-Natal, the Western Cape and other regions of South Africa.

Of the type of adventure preferred, most people in Gauteng listed off-roading in a 4x4 as their top adventure activity, followed closely by scuba diving and fishing. Only 267 respondents listed mountain and rock climbing as their top activity.

“The survey was interesting in that it provided us with some intelligent insight into where South Africa's adventure lovers live. It is not uncommon for a landlocked region to have the largest number of scuba divers, this is also the case in Colorado in the US. In fact, that state is also the most adventurous in the US. Although the highest number live in Gauteng, we believe that South Africans in general are very serious about making time for adventure,” said Liam Crause, brand manager of Captain Morgan Black.

Cooler box tops

When asking respondents what sport or lifestyle item they would take along on their adventure, the cooler box was at the top of the list for all provinces, followed by a camera and “the braai”. Hiking boots came last.

The survey is interactive and respondents are required to pick the adventure that they would go on visually, as well as selecting take-with items from an online shed. People who complete the visual survey are also eligible to win a weekend away, on the adventure that they chose, for themselves and three of their closest friends. So far, 133 405 people have entered the competition.
