The filmmaker's guide to glitch management

More than a century after the birth of the first flickering picture, commercial producer Oliver Nurock is turning heart-stopping moments into fertile fodder for a pioneering book on the film industry, 'Practically nothing can go wrong...'. Deadline for submissions - comprising first-hand accounts of the unforgettable, most absurd of incidents during productions worldwide - has been extended to 31 May 2006.

"Virtually any person ever involved, be they industry veterans or one-off runners, has a well-stocked reserve of 'war-stories' geared to fit the occasion," says Nurock, whose production company, Reel Africa, is based in Cape Town.

"The aim is to collate and publish these 'behind the scenes production moments' that invariably become the stuff of industry lore and legend."

The wealth and diversity of stories Nurock has already received have opened up the project to unexpected, exciting possibilities, he says. For this reason, his publisher has recommended that the deadline for submissions be extended to 31 May 2006.

So, send Nurock an anecdote, image, bite, bitch or whinge - even an expletive. He wants the naked truth from producers, directors, talent and crew - anyone involved in the making of commercials, features, sitcoms, soapies and smut - about monumental errors, magnificent failures and serendipitous successes. Submissions may be sent to .

Apart from entertainment value, this book will serve as an invaluable guide to glitch management in an industry that prides itself on its professionalism, and a substantial percentage of all proceeds and royalties will be donated to 'Mylife', a non-profit Cape Town-based NGO aimed at alleviating the plight of Cape Town's homeless children.
