Public viewing areas a solution for 2010?

With the Confederations Cup almost upon us and the 2010 FIFA World Cup around the corner, an unanswered question has been how to satisfy the local demand to view expensive matches. Public viewing areas (PVAs) could provide a solution...

A consortium of companies - Sony, Questek Advanced Technologies, Tswelopele Technological Solutions, Prosound and Phambili African Events - has developed what it claims is a first-rate cost-effective PVA solution.

PVAs are permanent or temporary spaces set aside within a community that provide an alternative to actually being at the event. They allow the general public to participate and experience the atmosphere of the stadiums when finances and location often make it difficult for many people to travel to the host city and obtain tickets.

PVAs are intended to offer a secure environment and foster a sense of community and provide opportunities for local businesses and employment, as well as sponsorship opportunities to generate additional revenue. They can be tailored to all occasions, from major sporting events to political rallies, community and corporate events, with four different options to suit a crowd of 500 to one of 40 000.

All involved

The consortium companies have all been involved, in their own right, with outfitting select 2010 stadiums, which will be hosting the Confederations Cup and FIFA World Cup events or with hosting major PVA events.

The PVA for the Confederations Cup and 2010 FIFA World Cup will be made up of quality LED screens (fixed, mobile or temporary), broadcast production system and additional consumer products from CCTV monitoring, ticketing and access-control systems to PA systems, generator power and stage lighting.

Additionally, the consortium will also completely manage the project including co-ordination, logistics, marketing and sponsorship management.
