2011 Cannes Report: SA in top 20 for countries, cities

The report, released this morning, Wednesday, 5 October 2011, is the official guide to the rankings from the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity and is described as a "a must-have for any agency wishing to understand their industry and their performance within it".

In 2009, in the inaugural report, SA also made it to 13th place in the overall country rankings, and Johannesburg was ranked 10th in terms of most creative cities. South Africa did not appear to feature in any top twenties in the 2010 report.

SA agencies also performed highly this year, with Net#work BBDO Johannesburg winning the Radio Grand Prix and being named the top radio agency overall, while Grey South Africa in Johannesburg having taken eighth place in the radio listings. M-Net's David Everson and Tamar Retter picked up Silver awards in the Young Lions competition, too.

The new 200-page edition of the Cannes Report, published by Cannes Lions in association with Shots, includes listings and analysis of:

  • The most awarded advertisers, independents, networks, production companies, creatives, directors, and agencies per entry section
  • The most awarded agencies in each region
  • The most awarded countries and cities
  • The key themes discussed at the 2011 seminars
  • Advice from this year's jury presidents on creating the perfect entry
  • Full listings of all winners

The Cannes Report may be ordered online via www.canneslions.com/store/. The cost is €159.00.

Next year's festival takes place 17-23 June 2012.
