A commercial that causes envy

Maximising on a clever campaign, The MediaShop elected to run the latest Peugeot 'Terrible Thing, Envy' commercial, created overseas, on the big screen to coincide with the latest Jack Black comedy entitled Envy.

The movie storyline follows the life of two best friends, Tim and Nick, whose equal status goes horribly wrong when one of Nick's get-rich-quick schemes becomes a reality. Tim, who passed up the opportunity to be part of the deal, is consumed with jealousy and envy as he is forced to watch Nick's success unfold.

The Peugeot commercial, screened before the movie commences, depicts a series of envious individuals who conspire to cause excessive damage to newly acquired Peugeot 307's. The commercial begins with a tollbooth operator who purposefully drops the boom onto a brand new Peugeot, an envious shopper slams a trolley into a carefully parked Peugeot, even pigeons get in on the act bombing the vehicle with droppings and a piano is enviously dropped from an extreme height, demonstrating the absolute jealousy and envy of people who don't own a luxurious Peugeot.

"The association between the movie and the commercial works really well together and the recall of the commercial should be increased as audiences register the word association," comments Elmarie Pretorius, Managing Director, CineMARK.
