Johannesburg Homemakers Expo does it again
The 26th edition of the Johannesburg Homemakers Expo, held at the Ticketpro Dome from 28 February - 3 March, set the stage for over 350 expert exhibitors to share their latest home, décor and lifestyle products with discerning homeowners.
This year’s show was an opportunity to share stories and connect with experts and celebrities. Highlights ranged from demonstrations of all kinds to design competitions and relaxed conversations, all keeping visitors informed and highly entertained.
The success of the show demonstrated why Homemakers Expo remains one of the leading events in the home improvement and lifestyle sector, and proved once again that it is on the cutting edge of international and local trends. The show featured an expertly curated selection of the region’s best home improvement suppliers, interiors, soft furnishings, lighting, kitchens, furniture, landscape design and more.
Books and Banter
The first Books and Banter Theatre, was hosted by Sinki Mlambo in collaboration with Exclusive Books, Victoria’s Stag Gin and Van Loveren Wines. The Theatre gave visitors the chance to engage with celebrities (Lorna Maseko, Armand Aucamp, Izelle Hoffman and Renette Vosloo), authors (Sarah Key), editors (Kelebogile Nonzaba, SA Home Owner and Liz Morris, Conde Nast House & Garden) and a range of bloggers in an intimate and relaxed setting.
Tuis|home Theatre
Another jam-packed feature was tuis|home Theatre, where visitors were able to sit down, taste, touch and be entertained by a number of personalities. Demonstrations included a “kaal” Armand Aucamp cooking up a storm, Renette Vosloo telling her Rooitamatie story and Nadine Vosloo showing visitors the best way to use Tjhoko Paint.
Raw Workshop
Collaboration abounded in the Raw Workshop sponsored by World of Decorative Concrete. DIY enthusiasts got their hands dirty while learning about raw products. Expert demonstrations on concrete (World of Decorative Concrete), glass (Smelt Glass Studio), wool (The Yarn Room), copper (Sarah Cronin Designs), DIY nature home products (Natural Nerd), wood (DIY with Elle) and stenciling (Earthly Mosaics) were thoroughly enjoyed.
The Young Designers Challenge
The Young Designers Challenge, sponsored by Vermont Sales saw students from the University of Johannesburg present their innovative multi-purpose power tools of the future. The winner this year was Shannon Botha whose Wedgit Seedling Planter was designed to assist gardeners and small scale farmers with the task of planting many small fragile plants at their optimum depth without damaging or hurting the plant.
