Non-compliance leads to wage strike
The minimum wage model being applied to clothing and textile workers is out of step with the realities of the industry and Business Day reports that this is the main reason why few of the companies are complying with its requirements.
Quoting Johann Baard, executive director of the Apparel Manufacturers of South Africa, Business Day says that the wage model was the main reason that 3000 members of the Southern African Clothing and Textile Workers Union had downed tools in protest against manufacturers in Isithebe, KwaZulu-Natal.
