Protea Kruger Gate upgrades interiors, amenities following R100m investment
New features of the reception include a speciality coffee shop where guests can meet and relax over a freshly brewed coffee, speciality teas and other beverages.
With the room count expanding from 96 rooms to 138 rooms, there is now a range of accommodation to choose from, from standard to large guest rooms and from the executive to presidential suites, all set in the tranquil natural woodland where gentle Nyala antelope graze. With refined Africa-inspired décor, all rooms have en-suite bathrooms, air-conditioning, free wi-fi and in-room dining.
The addition of executive suites, the presidential suite and a helipad brings an all-new dimension to the hotel. The presidential suite consists of two en-suite bedrooms with outdoor showers that are linked to other executive suites. The living space includes an exclusive deck and plunge pool; an open-plan 10-seater room for dining and meetings and a private kitchen service.
Key facilities of the hotel such as the Kudyela restaurant and the Lapa have also been expanded and modernised. Generous, buffet-style breakfasts are served both in and outdoors at the Kudyela Restaurant; and memories are made, in the glow of stars and wood fires, as sumptuous dinner feasts are served in the outdoor Lapa, inspired by African tradition and accompanied by local marimba bands, dance troupes and local choirs.
The hotel’s game-viewing walkway set on the banks of the Sabie River offers views into the Kruger Park and houses the pool bar. The pool bar serves a la carte lunches which include pasta, pizzas, wraps, flame-grilled burgers and sharing platters.
In 2020, Protea Hotel by Marriott Kruger Gate will also be opening an African-inspired spa overlooking the Sabie River, as well as revitalised conference and event facilities.
