Career as a DJ?

To give young wannabe DJs a start in the professional DJ world, DJ Euphonik and friends have produced DJ 101 (www.dj101.co.za) - a DJ and producing workshop and crash course for beginners. It will be held on Saturday, 28 November 2009 at the Bassline in Newtown, Joburg.
Career as a DJ?

DJing has moved into the mainstream as a choice of careers for school leavers and youngsters around the world, with the youth of today having seen the international success of DJs, such as Carl Cox and Fatboy Slim, and, locally, DJ Fresh and DJ Euphonik. It is no longer a sideline hobby but a serious, and potentially very lucrative, lifelong career path.

The choice to follow this as a career isn't as simple as making the decision to do it however - top DJs are highly skilled performers; that skill being what makes them stand out from the masses of others who achieve mediocre success. To hone this skill takes hours of practising and choosing the right music and developing a style that the public will instantly recognise and remember.

Intro level workshop

The workshop will be the first annual DJ/ producing intro level workshop and will align itself with industry leaders, suppliers and DJ gurus who come together to share their knowledge in a creative music space. Tickets will cost R250 and will get the attendee a DJ pack, including a 101 trainee booklet and more.

The friends that Euphonik has brought on board are from diverse backgrounds and all have experiences and wisdom to share with the delegates, having each achieved industry success in his own right. Included in this group are: DJ Euphonik, DJ Clock, Milkshake, QT, DJ China, Brett Jackson, DJ Dimplez, Shaun Duvet, DJ SPHEctacula and the Soulcandi Institute of Music.

From 12 to 30

Anyone between the ages of 12 to 30, interested in DJing and producing music is welcome to attend. The workshop will be a great way to get a real taste of the industry in a very short amount of time and network with music industry heavyweights. No one under the age of 12 will be allowed to attend and no alcohol will be served.

Attendee registration will take place through an online booking form or through a central fax number. Interested parties are ask to register online at www.dj101.co.za. Registration will close on Friday, 20 November 2009.
