An impressive line-up of leading social media heavy-weights is set to present at the upcoming Social Media Landscape Briefings in September this year. These events, hosted by Marketing Mix Conferences, are designed to provide delegates with a deep understanding of the demographics of the various social networks and their impact on the African context.

The two events, being held in Johannesburg on 4 September and Cape Town on 6 September 2012, will see the release of the Social Media Landscape 2012 research report, prepared in partnership between World Wide Worx MD Arthur Goldstuck and Fuseware MD Mike Wronski.

"The Social Media Landscape 2012 is the social bible for professional marketers and covers platforms including; Facebook, Twitter, Google+, Mxit, YouTube, LinkedIn, Blackberry Messenger, blogs, Foursquare, Whatsapp and 2go," says Wronski. "Its results will provide insight and perspective into the potential social media holds for business, economic and political change across the African continent."

The line-up

Debating the key stats and trends in the African social landscape will comprise a who's who of brand, retail and agency marketers from organisations such as Quirk, Distell, Habari Media, MXit, Woolworths, News 24, Gloo, Nedbank, Standard Bank and Cerebra. Joining Goldstuck and Wronski to provide uniquely authoritative and comprehensive perspectives will also be leading media technologists Aki Anastasiou, Simon Dingle and Toby Shapshak.

The events are targeted at marketing and business professionals, from entrepreneurs and start-up owners through to employees working at large organisations.

Practical, first-hand knowledge

Attendees will gain practical, first-hand knowledge about the latest social media data and trends, big platform analysis, strategic insight into social, platform and content strategy, overviews of the best 2012 social media campaigns and expert responses to delegates questions.

"South Africa currently has 5,3 million registered Facebook users," says Goldstuck. "This, on the African continent, is second only to Egypt which currently boasts over 11 million users. When considering you can safely add 25% to these numbers based on location not being provided with users registering via mobile devices, it would be short sighted for businesses to not be taking that level of social penetration seriously," he concludes.
