A hole-in-one will be worth a million to disabled golfers

Bell's Extra Special Old Scotch Whisky will donate R1-million to the South African Disabled Golf Association (SADGA) when the first pro golfer hits a hole-in-one on the par 3, 15th hole on the 3rd and 4th days of the 2008 SA Open Championship.

This year's tournament will kick off on Thursday 18 December and will be hosted by the Pearl Valley Golf Estates. According to Bell's Brand Manager, Dominic Malan, the hole-in-one challenge forms part of the brand's continued commitment to disabled golf.

The brand's sponsorship of the SADGA was initiated in 2004 and since then has grown in strength with funds being raised throughout the year via the Bell's Experience National Golf Tournaments that are hosted at various high-profile golf clubs and estates. This year alone, the company has managed to raise and donate R320 000 to the SADGA through the company's Experience Golf Days.

Bell's Fraternity of Connoisseur members are invited to participate in these special golf days with funds being raised via ‘pay-to-play' incentives and the total monies of the day being donated to the SADGA.

“Our long-standing relationship with golf and our commitment to the SADGA aligns with the Brandhouse Beverages mandate of enriching communities. As golf is an age-old Scottish tradition the opportunity to use the championship as an additional platform to raise funds for SADGA was an obvious one".

Registered as a Section 21 company in 2004, the SADGA through the guidance of Executive Director, Eugene Vorster has put every effort into creating public awareness of the challenges facing disabled golfers as well as highlighting their achievements. Created to encourage and promote every South African with a disability to play and enjoy golf, the SADGA endorses golf as a viable form of rehabilitation and recreation for the disabled.

Comments Vorster: “On behalf of all the disabled golfers, SADGA wants to take this opportunity to thank Bell's for their loyal and generous support. It would really bring a tear to your eye if you could witness the pleasure that your sponsorship brings to so many disabled golfers throughout South Africa. We are all ‘holding thumbs' that the professionals achieve a hole-in-one on the 15th over the weekend.”

“We are privileged to be part of this auspicious golfing occasion and look forward to days 3 and 4 of the tournament when I am convinced we'll raise our glasses to the pro golfer who hits that hole in one in aid of the SADGA,” concludes Malan.
