SABS certifies fruit juices

The South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) recently handed an E-Mark certificate to Ceres Fruit Juices (Pty) Ltd, proving that quantity can also be quality. E-Mark is the quantity control scheme under SABS 1841 that aims to enhance consumer protection by ensuring that consumers will receive the quantity declared on the package.

This award strengthens the ethos of Ceres Fruit Juices as a well-rounded and wholesome brand name that has continuously produced pure fruit juices with no preservatives or additives, delivering a superior product to their consumers.

The process began in 2005 with an initial audit, with follow-up audits by the SABS team to ensure that the company was continuing to meet the Board's requirements for certification. The end-result is that the team confirmed this, and recommended registration. The approval board was satisfied with the progress and ability of the organisation and certification was granted.

The E-Mark is a prestigious mark to have on your products and having the E-Mark on a product implies the following:

• The mark primarily says something about Ceres Fruit Juices.
• It says something about the company's commitment to serving correct quantity to clients.
• It talks about the standard of quality within the organisation.
• It says that where quality is concerned, Ceres Fruit Juices goes beyond what is legally required beyond the bare minimum.
• It says that the company is continually striving for excellence.
• It says that the company has embraced the concept of globalisation.

A further advantage of the E-Mark for companies that export their products is that cross-border trading becomes much easier. Since South Africa is becoming more involved in the international and regional arena this is an important consideration. The E-Mark will ensure that their products will not be opened and tested in Europe or within the SADC region, (this will also be an important issue in near future).
