Markham introduces "social shopping" to SA shores

Leading men's fashion retailer, Markham, has become the first retailer in South Africa to bring social shopping to their customers, by integrating Facebook's new social plug-in into their corporate website.

Facebook's fuller feature XFBML like button has been integrated across the site, which allows browsers to like, view and post items of clothing to their profile, as well as view items their friends have liked. The functionality encourages users to further engage with the online content, as well as share across their social network.

Reneé New, Markham Marketing Executive, said, "Markham is excited to pioneer this technology in South Africa, and join a handful of brands worldwide to have done so. We continually look for innovative ways to bring our brand closer to our loyal customers, and believe that the new functionality will make for a more exciting, and social online experience. Not only will this increase our brand awareness through an increased digital footprint, but it will also provide us with invaluable customer insights."

The social plug-in was integrated into the site by Techsys Informatics, a digital marketing agency based in Cape Town which specialises in retail web development and e-marketing strategy. Andrew Walmsley, the managing director, said, "We have worked closely with Markham over the past three years to further develop their social presence, and believe that the new functionality will improve both the user experience, as well as increase their online presence, which is great."

Powered by Open Graph, the plug-in is one of a variety of new buttons introduced by Facebook at the f8 conference, which can be integrated into the site to make the user experience more social.

Markham have established themselves as a brand innovator within the social realm, and will continue to explore, and pioneer technology in order to further strengthen customer relationships.
