    Pendoring Awards 2002 Results

    FCB Cape Town took the honours at this year's Pendoring Advertising Awards for exceptional Afrikaans advertising, by winning nine of the 16 categories and the same agency was also awarded the Pendoring as the overall winner.

    The awards, which were made at a glittering event on Friday evening at VodaWorld in Midrand, belonged to the original and typical South African Klipdrift campaign which was created for client Klipdrift.

    FCB Cape Town's total campaign, as well as the whole creative team, also walked away with the Pendoring Prestige Prize, the kykNET overseas study bursary and an additional R5 000 in prize money.

    The same creative team (Francois de Villiers, creative director, Anthony de Klerk, art director, and Hanlie Kriel, copywriter) also won a Pendoring for client BASF in the magazine category for the ad Niksverloren.

    TBWA Hunt Lascaris won a Pendoring for the hilarious TV-ad, Het jy 'n nood? , created for Standard Bank Home Loans which also landed comedian Casper de Vries the prize as the best performing actor.

    Another Cape Town agency, Publicis, won the radio category with a spot for the magazine Sarie, Girlie-tydskrif, and RSG's screensaver, designed by Digital Exception, won the New Media - Advertisements category.

    For the first time in many years a Pendoring was awarded in the jingle category. It went to Krisjan Fourie for 'Bliksemware' with pop group Battery 9's Paul Riekert warning the students through Radio Tuks to wake up (Skrik wakker!)

    Willem Gous' website, Willem Woes, won a Pendoring for the second year in succession in this category.

    But, as in the past, it was the creativity of the students, competing for the two SABC2 study bursaries, which inspired and gave hope for the future of Afrikaans advertising. Both Pendorings were won by students from AAA School of Advertising in Johannesburg. In the single entries the extremely funny radio spot, Die Stem, done by Morné Strydom and Gustav Lammerding won the Pendoring and in the campaign category it was Dantie van der Merwe's Kattermaai, which won her the trophy and the bursary.
