The Creative Circle results for August 2007 are finally out but when chairperson Fran Luckin was asked to provide comments on the standard of work entered for that month, she wondered if a minute's silence wouldn't be more appropriate. “The phrase ‘overall the standard was pretty low', is an understatement, although there were a couple of highlights in newspaper and TV," she said.
She added, “Overall there were so few entries that we could have been forgiven for thinking that the fabled hurricane had swept away most of the agencies' delivery vehicles and their entries along with them.”
She said there were three clear winners in Newspaper; that Outdoor was a sparsely populated category that the jury struggled to find three to vote for; that Film was a very mixed bag, with quite a few entries falling into the “what were they thinking?” category. “Some fun from Standard Bank and a beautifully art directed piece for Sasol.”
As for radio, she said that there are two words on the overall standard: “Oh. Dear.” But a “thought-provoking spot for the Salvation Army and some funny dialogue for Russian Bear vodka.”
As for Magazine, “there were so few entries that we felt it would be better to include them in the September judging,” she explained.
