Fund awarded NGO status

Finally, after many years, the Advertising Benevolent Fund (ABF), has been awarded non-profit status with SARS, so that any company donating funds to it may now claim it as a tax incentive. It also means that with a fundraising number, the ABF is able to hold large fundraising events appealing to all members of the public.

Since the late 1960s, the ABF has been assisting those in dire need in the advertising industry nationwide through monies raised from sponsorships and fundraising events.

Says Greg Stewart, president of the ABF, "It's a project that we've been working on for some time. The primary reason for wanting to obtain this status is so that we can advertise to anybody for funds, in addition, all sponsors get tax relief and we can now go big with the ideas that we've had, but have been restricted from doing.

The first project on the ABF's radar is the organising of the inaugural annual Corporate Social Responsibility Awards in 2007 and it is appealing to corporates to sponsor the event in its entirety or various sub-sections are available for sponsorship. The award programme is designed to honour companies for their contribution to the communities they serve.
