Telling tales at the SABC
Gloria Britain, ECD Editor explains: "We are looking at promoting and reviving the tradition of story telling based on stories with moral. We haven't done story telling for young children before and this project focuses on our African heritage, one of the SABC's goals."
The ECD unit and delegates from the various SABC radio stations are conducting a content seminar to conceptualise and develop the series for radio with the intention to extend to television, web and print at a later stage.
Well-known story teller Gcina Mhlophe and Dr Sekhothe from University of Limpopo will share their story telling techniques at the seminar.
The purpose of the seminar is to assist radio producers in the identification and selection of appropriate and relevant traditional stories, story gathering methods and story telling techniques for inclusion in a radio series to be broadcast in 2006. The stories will contribute to a collection of stories that can be enjoyed and loved by all South African children.
