International kudos for DStv promotions
Satellite TV provider DStv has firmly established itself in the top echelons of global broadcasting by winning two gold and two silver awards at the recent Promax Awards, the Oscars of international television marketing, in New York.
Lauded as "the ultimate achievement for creatives worldwide", the Promax Awards are judged by an international panel of Promotion and Marketing professionals, based on three criteria: overall creativity, production quality and results in achieving marketing objectives.
DStv joins an impressive roster of award recipients, including BBC Broadcast, Cartoon Network, CBS Television, Discovery Networks, Disney Channel, FOX, HBO, MTV, National Geographic Channel, NBC, Nickelodeon, Sky Television Network and Warner Bros. International Television.
Its "Double-oh" promotion, featuring Colin Moss, was awarded Gold in the category "Cable Systems/Digital Broadcast Systems: Directing". Its "Fame & Misfortune" promo was also awarded Gold in the category "Cable Systems/Digital Broadcast Systems: Video Game TV Promotion".
DStv won silver awards for "No Movies" in the category "Cable Systems/Digital Broadcast Systems: Branding/Image" and "DMX Channel Changes" in the category "Cable Systems/Digital Broadcast Systems: Local/Regional TV Promotion".
A delighted Graham Pfuhl, Marketing and Sales Director at Multichoice Africa, said the awards showed once again that locally-produced creative work could hold its own on an international platform, against stiff competition from around the world.
"This is a great feather in our cap. As a South African television network, we're a fraction of the size of some of our global peers, but our quality is right up there with the best of them," said Pfuhl.
DStv's on-air communication is produced by Studio Zoo, a young and dynamic company that has previously won platinum and silver Promax Awards for DStv promotions.
Koo Govender, DStv's Creative Services Manager, said subscriber feedback to the winning campaigns had been overwhelming. "Still, it's wonderful to get affirmation on a platform like Promax. What these awards tell us is that our continual striving to create an emotional connection with our subscribers is on the right track. Now all we have to do is get even better next year ..."
