Chart show goes interactive

Since this past Saturday, 6 October 2007, listeners are now able to direct the format of 5FM's Saturday morning chart show – MTV and 5FM present TRL (Total Request Live) Radio with KFC, hosted by Nicole Fox.

“We are thrilled to give our listeners a South African first with a truly interactive chart show. Listeners can now be the stars by voting for their favourite tracks at www.5fm.co.za – apart from their selections being used to compile the actual chart, selected listener playlists will also be featured weekly. The freshest new hits storming the local an international charts will premiere on the show, and a one-hour TV version of the show will air on MTVbase later in the month! The future of chart shows has arrived. I… know our listeners are going to love this!” enthuses 5FM's Nicole Fox.

TRL Radio is a four-hour countdown of the 40 biggest audience-requested songs of the week, broadcast every Saturday from 10am on 5FM. Fox will present the show along with special celebrity co-hosts every week. Apart from breaking the hottest hits and artists, the show will also feature blockbusting features such as the latest celeb and movie news (including exclusive celebrity scoops), MTV's most requested videos as well as regular updates from global charts.

“We're delighted to introduce MTV's very first radio property to South Africa,” commented Alex Okosi, SVP and MD of MTV Networks Africa. “The show has everything – in that it's interactive, has audience-generated content and great music. These are all the things that we know listeners want”.

The show will be mostly studio-based, but special on-location broadcasts (top MTV events and concerts from around the world) are also in the pipeline.

“We are excited to be a part of an innovative and exciting project. TRL represents the coming together of 3 big brands to provide South Africa with the ultimate in entertainment” says Thabang Butelezi, KFC brand manager.
