Prime Circle ‘lives this life' at Kirstenbosch

Prime Circle took eight years to get to Kirtsenbosch and in 2009 they made it and what's more, they played to a sold out crowd. They got 5500+ fans to their feet, screaming, jumping and clapping their hands. Did they deserve their spot on the line-up of last year's Cokefest…hell yeah! This five-piece band has come a long way from their first album, “Hello Crazy World” and they have far from run out of steam.

They were absolutely awesome and are great entertainers, playing songs from all three albums with a fresh and friendly feel fitting the Kirtsenbosch atmosphere highlighting their ability to adapt. New members of the versatile band for the day were a percussionist, Dave the harmonica player as well as Theo Crous, former Springbok Nude Girls band member, who seems to be teaming up with SA bands on a regular basis.

While they did take a while to get going, Kirstenbosch gave Prime Circle a more than warm welcome and hopefully they are invited back next year. It was a flawless performance in my view as they churned out track after track going beyond the usual time slot and giving fans something to sing and dance about. They have great stage presence, though with the renovations done the stage does look a lot bigger than last year.

Ross Learmonth, vocalist and guitarist has a voice that carries crisply through the air emphasising his natural singing ability while Marco Gomes on bass displays his confidence while prancing around stage and hitting all the notes right on par. Dirk Bisschoff also lacks in no skill with the guitar, putting to shame all the half-measure musicians in SA who lack dedication and the perseverence needed for success. Dale Schnettler on drums, while taking a backseat at this sort of gig still never misses a beat. Neil Breytenbach on the keyboard blends in well with the rest of the band as all together they produce a perfect set.

While making it big in the country they remain steady with both feet firmly on the ground as their humility is expressed through their music. Prime Circle is an inspiration to South African musicians and should be revered as a band to emulate.
