#MusicExchange: Ross Jack
Ross Jack is back dropping one new song entitled "People". He is a highly rated producer before he stepped out from the background, in front of the mic and released his own unique brand of hip-hop.
His debut album was Notes from the Wild. Six of the singles in rotation made it into the 5 FM Top Five and two of them the number one spot. “Home Safe” ft. Kat Winter was the biggest single off the album. The new album #Self Medicated - captures influences from rap, RnB/soul, trip/hop and pop. I caught up with Jack, last week.
What does music mean to you?
Music means more than most to me, it has been a huge part of my life for so long – first as just a listener then as a creator and a listener. I feel it’s the only medicine to soothe the soul.
What is the most enjoyable aspect of your work?
Definitely, the moment in the studio when everyone realises that you’re making something great and everyone’s excited and getting ahead of themselves for a couple minutes, and you play it back and play it back and feel this buzz. It’s hard to explain, but yeah.
What drives you: ego or humility?
I would like to say humility.
Any funny moments on stage?
Got a couple but the one that sticks in my head was when this lady in front of me fell off this dude’s shoulders and went down pretty hard – she got up pretty swiftly so it was pretty funny, luckily I was in between songs.
What is your most treasured possession?
My laptop, hands down. If that went missing my world would crash.
It’s your round, what are you drinking?
Depends on the time. If we are starting in the afternoon, then a G&T for sure, if it’s evening, Scotch on the rocks. And always tequila.
Dream gig to do?
Coachella, main stage, pm.
What makes you stand out?
Probably my booming voice when I’m having fun, it’s loud.
Nicknames?
Hetto, Jack the Ripper, Bambi.
If you were not a musician, what would you do?
I think I would be a hairdresser or football coach.
Pick five words to describe yourself?
Humble, caring, inpatient, funny, anxious.
Favourite fashion garment?
My sneakers, for sure.
Give us some real proper slang and what it means
“Easy on those apples and pears or you slip and end up brown bread.” – Easy on those stairs or you’ll slip and end up dead.
Top of your bucket list?
Motorcycle ride from the top of Italy to the bottom.
Your greatest achievement?
I think being a self-taught musician because it’s not easy to learn and apply and achieve and it takes a lot of time. My new single “People” was composed, produced, written and recorded by me – which I’m pretty proud of.
What do you complain about most often?
People being late.
What is your fear?
Flying in planes.
On stage, I tend to?
Talk a lot.
Where would you like to be right now?
Anywhere with a bar and good music, it’s rare.
Wishes and dreams?
Just a number one or two hit that would do it nicely.
