Cape Town traffic police impounded almost 100 Uber vehicles in June because its drivers did not have public transport operating permits. They were later issued with 145 operating permits.
IFP MP Khethamabala Sithole said: "Uber wants to operate all over without restrictions. We are going to have problems, there are bus operators, taxi operators to be considered."
DA MP Manny de Freitas said: "Some Ubers are not registered as metered taxis, which is national legislation. How is it that some of your drivers are not registered?"
Uber general manager for Southern Africa Alon Lits said the company had created 2,000 jobs so far and this could soon increase to 15,000.
