New online platform for SMMEs

A new SMME online platform, known as Quisme, has launched to provide a space where like-minded entrepreneurs are able to research business-related content; engage with one another with the view of seeking advice from other like-minded business owners and assist one another in solving common dilemmas that are part and parcel of running a business.

According to Nicole Brown, MD of Submarine Depth Research who developed the site, it provides these business owners with access to a particularly tight-knit community of successful business minds, solutions to common issues, as provided by peers and the opportunity to be part of refining this new platform for business thought leaders.

"The idea behind Quisme is not to replicate sites such as LinkedIn or Twitter but to provide a local online environment that caters specifically for the needs of SME owners, most of whom are largely time-strapped and don't have hours to spend online researching business solutions. Typically, business owners are busy and often stressed individuals and we recognise that they are unlikely to spend time in an online space unless it delivers a tangible benefit that makes a difference to their daily life and particularly to their business. We believe this site makes that difference," says Brown.

The site is primarily aimed at small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs), as defined and segmented by Dti in terms of company turnover parameters. The site, which is exceptionally user-friendly and easy to navigate, features a host of offerings, most notably a video gallery where users can view 60-second talks by South Africa's leading SMEs and where they can also upload their own video to share experiences with others.

Also on the site is a briefing room, where users can participate in industry-related polls and discussions and a section called seekers and solvers, where members can post questions, which will be answered by other members on the site. Hot topics around lifestyle and travel are also discussed, and as a value-add for the time-conscious business owner, the latest news and trends are also available.

"What's really great about the site is that it provides small business owners with 'face-to-face' contact with like-minded individuals who have similar challenges. Members are able to access one another's profiles and the site also features success stories in the spotlight section that are available to take questions online."
