IDC funding to grow export market for I-Slices

The IDC has invested R5 million in I-Slices Manufacturing to increase its international expansion of its locally developed and produced range of eye masks, eyeSlices. The product is continuing to make in-roads into new markets such as Iceland, where it will now be available in 76 Iceland Air duty-free stores and in-flight catalogues from January 2014.

Canadian investors previously offered the company C$250,000 in venture capital, but it declined the offer and chose to take a local partner on board instead, so as to expand the business, increase production and invest in new technology.

The range of eye masks is available in North America, as well as further afield in Europe, Scandinavia, Australia and the Middle East.

They are innovative eye treatment pads that combine the natural essence of nature with bio-innovation to bring about an all-in-one solution to all common eye concerns. Described as a global first in cryogel polymer technology, they reduce the appearance of red eyes, dark circles, tired eyes, wrinkles and puffy eyes within 5 minutes of use. They lock in moisture and are unique in that they provide an instant cooling sensation without a fridge and are re-usable.
