    Top 40 South African brands on Mxit on 31 July 2014

    Snapshot: Nokia continues rise up the top 10, Vodacom grows 23% in build up to 20th birthday celebrations, Samsung holds on to top mobile brand with 8% growth and Shoprite reaches the top 20.

    Nokia's SWIPE SNAP SHARE campaign yielded a 28% growth of 156,815 new subscribers, taking the brand to seventh position in the top ten - but Samsung's 8% growth of 53,325 new subscribers kept them at top mobile spot on Mxit's July Brand Index report.

    Fifth-ranked KFC is a consistent top performer and this showed in July with 52,038 new subscribers bringing the brand to the brink of that magical million-subscriber mark.

    Vodacom's 20th Birthday celebration campaign took the brand up three places to 34th position, with a 23% growth and 48,557 new subscribers. July was clearly brand birthday celebration month - Shoprite's birthday competition and EeziCoupon campaign delivered an 11% growth of 43,288 new subscribers, taking the retail brand to the top twenty.

    Nando's, FNB and adidas claimed good growth with 19,283 (9%), 38,297 (7%) and 41,535 (12%) new subscribers, respectively.

    Brands to watch: Coca Cola, Vodacom and Ster-Kinekor

    All three brands continue to invest in mobile advertising and community growth and are developing new apps. Ster-Kinekor's updated app is already live on Mxit. New features, competitions, and great content continue to delight Mxit's already highly engaged users.
