Tsitsikamma upgrades in progress

The R17 million+ planned upgrades for the Tsitsikamma section of the Garden Route National Park will begin in two weeks at the Storms River Rest Camp. The upgrades are scheduled to start with the entrance gate, with the aim to simplify the structure and system for visitors entering the Park's main gate, and administration building.

A temporary road was constructed recently to allow visitors to access the Park without hindrance. The gate area will be cordoned off while work on the main gate progresses to allow buses and vehicles easy access.

Noise levels are expected to remain normal and parking space will also not be affected at all by any of the construction work. No heavy machinery will be used and all work is on the existing footprint.

Other upgrades that are part of the R17+ million project include a new office block, development around the Big tree and the restaurant area. "We have structured construction work with the visitor in mind. All work will adhere to environmental legislation and standards and visitor experience and safety will not be compromised," says area manager for the Tsitsikamma section, Lesley Ann Meyer.
