Manhattan School of Music Hugh Masekela Scholarship applications are open
The scholarship is aimed at young South African musical talent who face social, cultural and economic challenges, and have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to advancing their craft.
Six qualifying students – over three years – will receive a scholarship to attend the music conservatories – an institution where a young Masekela studied for four years.
The Hugh Masekela Heritage Scholarship is a joint initiative of the Hugh Masekela Heritage Foundation, The ELMA Music Foundation and the Manhattan School of Music.
Throughout his life, Masekela was an exemplar of the principle that ‘the learning never ends’ – his curiosity, eagerness to learn and collaborate with others was a hallmark of his appeal to audiences and fellow-creatives alike.
