New film festival for Cape
Lilian Baksalevowicz, founder of Filmmaker South Africa, says: "The Right Eye Film Festival will be highly entertaining showing well-constructed story-lines, character development, exceptional production design, animation and special effects."
The winning film - running at less than 11 minutes - will be acquired by Ster-Kinekor Distribution for big screen and DVD release with an appropriate feature film.
The festival will also honour filmmakers by selecting the best films in each of the categories: best film, best director and best animation. Judging will take place during the festival as each of the high-profile judges: Lawrence Mitchell (Cape Film Commission), Hilton Travis (Black Ginger), Marius van Straaten (Magus Visual), Rafiq Samsodien (The Asylum), Yusuf Ganief (Cape Town Festival) and Lilian Baksalevowicz (Filmmaker South Africa) will view the nominated films.
Baksalevowicz says: "The festival, which runs concurrently to the Cape Town Festival, aims to promote upcoming talent and of established directors to provide a platform for breaking into the mainstream film industry."
Featured filmmakers include Suno Gonera, Aryan Kaganof, Thabang Moleya and Diana Keam showcasing SFX, animation, performance, storytelling, cinematography and production design.
Sponsors of the festival include HDHub, Magus Visual, Black Ginger, The Cape Film Commission, The French Embassy, The Blackheart Gang, Live Wired Communications, The Cape Town Festival and the Labia Independent Theatre.
