Doors open for upgraded community clinics

Philips South Africa recently refurbished Westbury and Zandspruit clinics.

Philips' CSI initiative, SOAR (Supply, Opportunities and Achieve Results) has been actively involved in the upgrading and upliftment of schools and clinics for the past five years. As part of their goal in 2007, they took on the challenge of upgrading two Johannesburg based community clinics; Westbury and Zandspruit who were in dire need of proper facilities for their patients and staff.

The challenge began in early 2007 with the refurbishment and upgrade of Westbury Clinic. Here, repairs to the ceilings, floors and bathrooms were done; with the painting of the interior and exterior walls by the dedicated staff from Philips. The team also provided two television sets as well as a number of plants for the establishment, creating a warmer and happier environment. The rehabilitation centre was also completed, boasting a fully equipped gym, which has proved to be extremely beneficial in helping treat patients in recovery, whilst also assisting them to get back on track with their lives.

Following the various challenges and long hours that were put into Westbury Clinic, Zandspruit was next in line to receive a new facelift. Work here began later in the year, where the clinic was painted both on the interior and exterior of the building. A covering was too built for the entrance of the clinic, and the separation of one room into two rooms was completed. Tiling was finished throughout the building, and a television and an array plants were also installed. The Philips SOAR team is also proud to boast that with their helpful hands and big hearts, an Old Age home was also constructed at the clinic, stretching the benefits to more than sickly patients.

Project SOAR is an acronym for Supply Opportunities and Achieve Results, and through the dedication of Philips and its staff, they are proud to boast that outstanding results have been achieved from the refurbishment of both clinics, that will not only benefit patients and the surrounding communities, but too enrich and uplift the lives of the staff working for the clinics.

Both clinics were recently completed, with Philips as well as the surrounding communities and clinic staff being extremely grateful for all the effort and hard work. To launch the refurbished and uplifted establishments, Philips will be officially opening the doors of Westbury clinic on September, 11 where a celebration will be held in aid of this. Celebrations and a launch for Zandspruit clinic will also take place, but at a later stage.
