In November 2011 the minister of communications withdrew the controversial Draft Public Service Broadcasting Bill and promised to launch a comprehensive, public broadcasting policy review process. The SOS Coalition commended the ministry on this decision and had been calling on the ministry to launch the review.
Now that the ministry has called the coalition's working group to a meeting in Pretoria on Friday afternoon to discuss the review, the working group at today's press conference will be putting forward their views on the key issues that need to be covered and the process it feels "should be followed to ensure that the review ultimately culminates in new broadcasting laws that strengthen the SABC and community media to broadcast quality, independent, citizen-orientated programming that deepens the goals of our Constitution".
