Independent research conducted by 3M suggests it costs three times less to reach the same number of people through advertising on cars than billboards and four times less than television.

One local advocate of vehicle advertising is short-term insurance administrator CIB Insurance Solutions (CIB), which provides branded loan cars to motorists whilst they are waiting for their vehicle to be repaired.

Andrew Lilley, director at CIB, says the company recently gave some of their loan cars a subtle 'facelift' with their cheeky brand adorning the back of each car. “The branded cars are in line with the personality of the CIB brand and should help to get our message across to the public that CIB is there to support its customers. The advertising is expected to have a direct impact, as motorists will be face-to-face with the brand whilst in traffic,” says Lilley.

Lilley notes that research has suggested that it can attract up to 3000 views per hour and offers clients the flexibility of being able to target advertisements to specific areas. “Vehicle advertising has the ability to create a real buzz around your brand and given that it is still a relatively untapped method of marketing it can also provide a memorable way to reach out to new potential customers.

“We have had a great response to the branded cars. As they are constantly moving around, the perception is that they are everywhere. It's proving to be a very successful marketing tool.”
