Some inconvenient truths...

The Big Debate, just canned by our friends at Awkward Park, sounds like just the sort of show that should not be canned - billed as it is/was to give a voice to the voiceless and put the odd minister or two on the spot over service delivery, corruption, wasteful spending and so on. Benedicta Dube takes a look at the Big Debate drama, and says it was not long before the inconvenient truths became too inconvenient to the powers-that-be, and The Big Debate got canned.

As so often happens, however, the reason given for the canning are... er... puzzling - especially since the show had already been running for a while.

More drama for Woolies, as it is embroiled in a design row, but perhaps it's time to suggest that while many of us root for the 'small business', let's keep comments a little circumspect until such time as the whole story unfolds and the dust has settled.

Anton Harber takes a look at investigative journalism, how SA journalists fared against stiff competition at the Global Investigative Journalism Conference in Rio, and takes a look at Glenn Greenwald, one of the key players in the Edward Snowden exposé. It seems to be the new way of doing journalism.

On the design front, bad news for MetropolitanRepublic when its Project Uganda was stripped of its Loeries Grand Prix.

Finally, [Biz Takeouts Podcast] 74 looks at a new product from Amorphous New Media called Elastic Media Africa (EMA), as well as insights on the retail trading environment with StoreVue's director Gerard Eksteen.
