Schools in Pretoria are 'Going Green'
The competition theme is ‘Going Green' and learners need to interpret this theme by researching and creating projects, using elements according to their specific category brief. There are five different categories, which include Grade 1 to 3, Grade 4 to 7, Grade 8 and 9, Grade 10 to 12, as well as the open category (open to all grades). Each category has a different element such as paper, trash, energy efficiency, ecological footprint and trendy trash.
Participating schools will be responsible for the first round of judging as they need to judge their learners' projects according to the set category criteria. The three semi-finalists then go through to the second round of the competition and their projects will be showcased at Menlyn Shopping Centre from the 30th June - 6 July 2009. A panel of independent judges will choose the top three entrants of each category and winners will be notified 10 days after the exhibition.
Each participating school will receive a cash donation of R1 000 to utilise as they see fit and the winning learners will win fantastic cash prizes ranging between R1 000 and R5 000 each.
Johann Axsel, the HOMEMAKERS Pretoria Branch Manager says: “The beauty of this project is that learners benefit by learning more about going green and in the process stand the chance of winning their share of prize money for themselves."
