BP named top petrol brand
The awards are based on feedback on a representative sample of 3 500 people over the age of 16 from all walks of life who were polled for among other items their opinion on petroleum brands.
The survey found the distinguishing factor through which petrol companies differentiate themselves ultimately lay with the customer experience and the brand's ability to offer or produce products that are environmentally friendly. On both these aspects BP was rated highly.
BP was ranked ahead of its competitors and as the number one petroleum brand overall in terms of brand relationship. Its score of 31.8 places it 8 points ahead of Shell and more than 14 points ahead of Caltex and Engen.
The recently released 2005 AC Nielsen/MRA survey revealed that BP Express has emerged as the top convenience store brand among all the petroleum companies in South Africa for the eighth year running.
A representative sample of more than 2 400 households was asked which convenience stores they were aware of at service stations. Nearly 73% named BP Express while its closest competitor was Engen Quickshop at 68,2% and Shell Select at 63,2%.
Rui Jardim, BP's Brand and Advertising Manager, says: "The best part is that this feedback comes directly from the marketplace. The results are based on feedback from the general public who were polled for their opinion.
"Brand building is a long term process underpinned by consistency and the contribution of many. This award recognises an all round team effort, both current and past and we have thanked all our staff our dealers and partners for contributing to this success and in making us create what the public see as a great brand."
