Mobile news snack

According to Mail & Guardian Online editor Riaan Wolmarans, the M&G Online's new cellphone news services is part of the South African online news publisher's plans to spread its content on a variety of different platforms.

"As devices converge, so we are constantly on the look-out to distribute M&G content via many platforms, and the cellphone is one step in that direction. We think this is an exciting addition to the M&G content stable," comments Wolmarans.

Available since Wednesday last week, the news service, powered by Mobile Solutions provider Lucky Mobile, allows users to receive M&G Online breaking news and selected M&G newspaper articles and columnists via their 3G- and GPRS-enabled cellphones, after sending an SMS to subscribe.

Comments Lucky Mobile MD Laurence Seberini, "The trend in mobile technology is called 'snacking'. This service allows customers to 'snack' on the Mail & Guardian newspaper whenever they want to. The fact that you now have easy access to full stories in your pocket demonstrates the combined strength of mobile technology and great content!"
