Egoli burger campaign becomes annual initiative
In August 2007, Egoli partnered with Steers on the successful Project 4000, and, with the help of the public, managed to raise over R400 000 to feed the hungry. The idea was the brainchild of the Egoli stars and crew as a way to celebrate Egoli's 4000th episode. Due to this phenomenal response, Egoli and Steers have decided to join forces again this year, in conjunction with JAM (Joint Aid Management) under the new name Food4All.
The aim is to make even more money than before, and to cement this initiative as an annual event across the country.
For one weekend only, 12 - 14 September, the ‘Egoli' Burger will be available at all Steers restaurants around the country. For every ‘Egoli' Burger purchased on those days, Steers will donate all profits from the sales to JAM, a charity organisation that has been distributing food to the poor for more than 20 years.
The weekend will be split into three drives: On Friday 12 September, there will be a large corporate drive, focusing on businesses to get involved. Saturday 13 September will see the Egoli stars stopping by at Steers stores and Sunday 14 September will be an extra day of sales.
A total of 19 Egoli stars will visit selected Steers outlets around the country - from Witbank to Mitchell's Plain - on the Saturday to show their support of the Food4All initiative. “We are making ourselves useful on 13 September; we are hands-on, helping the hungry,” says Brumilda van Rensburg who plays Louwna Edwards in the show.
For anyone who would like to help feed a hungry child and support the Food4All initiative not only on the dedicated ‘burger' day, they can donate R5 every time they SMS the word “Food4All” to the number 36486. This SMS donation line will be open 12 - 30 September and all donations will go straight to JAM.
Egoli and Steers are aiming to raise as much money as possible with Food4All this year, and challenge individuals, as well as companies, around the country to do their bit for their fellow South Africans.
