Cowspiracy returns to The Labia

There will be a second chance to see Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret at The Labia Theatre, Cape Town on Thursday, 12 February, 2015, at 6.15pm.
Cowspiracy returns to The Labia

At a time when whole regions of the world are in drought, our oceans are dying and severe weather is becoming the norm, Cowspiracy seeks to find the real reasons why and what we can do about it.

Since last November's screening the world's media has been abuzz with two new studies, published in Science and Anthropocene Review, which featured the work of scientists from countries including the US, Sweden, Germany and India. The findings will be presented in seven seminars at the World Economic Forum in Davos, which takes place between 21 and 25 January. Humans are "eating away at our own life support systems" at a rate unseen in the past 10,000 years by degrading land and freshwater systems, emitting greenhouse gases and releasing vast amounts of agricultural chemicals into the environment, new research has found.

Major new studies

These two major new studies by an international team of researchers have "pinpointed the key factors that ensure a liveable planet for humans, with stark results. Of nine worldwide processes that underpin life on Earth, four have exceeded 'safe' levels - human-driven climate change, loss of biosphere integrity, land system change and the high level of phosphorus and nitrogen flowing into the oceans". Through intense conversations with leading environmental advocacy groups Cowspiracy explores the blind spots that are leading us down a road we won't be able to drive our electric car out of!

Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret is a ground-breaking feature-length environmental documentary following an intrepid filmmaker as he uncovers the most destructive industry facing the planet today - and investigates why the world's leading environmental organisations are too afraid to talk about it. As eye-opening as Blackfish and as inspiring as An Inconvenient Truth, this shocking yet humorous documentary reveals the absolutely devastating environmental impact large-scale factory farming has on our planet.
