Entrants sought for Jazz Idol

If you feel that you can make it as a jazz singer, then the Open Mic Competition at GrandWest's Jackson Hall is for you. Auditions open on Wednesday, 14 October from 8pm and are held every Wednesday until 30 December, 2009.

The winner will be given the tools with which to further a career. Prizes include voice training with professional jazz performer Bev Scott-Brown, the opportunity to perform with the Jackson Hall Jazz band for a month, a demo recording, assistance with designing an album cover and a photo shoot for the winner to build up a media portfolio.

A choice of songs

Entrants will be required to choose the song they intend performing from a selection of 70 well- known classics, such as Blue Moon, Girl from Ipanema, Hello Dolly, Chicago, I Left My Heart In San Francisco, Mac The Knife, Moon River, Mr Bojangles, Strangers In The Night, Summertime, and Unforgettable.

Entrants will be judged on their vocal technique, song interpretation, stage presence and audience response, so friends, family and fans are encouraged to cheer and support their favourite entrants.
