Richest model search kicks off

Tonight, 1 October, saw the first episode of the richest model show ever held being aired on SABC3. Model Millions, featuring the beautiful sisters, Kerry and Tracy McGregor as hosts, launched with 30 women lining up and waiting to be judged. There was no betrayal or behind the scenes cat-fights just yet but once the chosen 15 get housed together, we're bound to see some action.
Richest model search kicks off

A great feature of that first episode was the promotion of SA music through each scene, featuring sounds from Theo Crous of the Springbok Nude Girls and tracks off the “Perceptions of Pacha” album from Goldfish (who're playing at Rocking the Daisies this coming weekend as well as at the Virgin Festival 2008 - just by the by).

The anchor of last night's show (forgive me but his name slips my mind), turned into a preacher raising the motto “Go hot or go home” to the roof. After going through each lady's casting clip, where some of them seemed slightly brighter than others, they took a few photos in a quick shoot. The anchor (quite the funny guy really) did a short rendition of “Say a little prayer” for the women emphasising that confidence is key in order to make it, not just through these preliminary rounds but in the modelling industry. (He didn't actually say all that, but I'm sure he meant it…)

They were then made to strip completely, including make-up and given some whitey tighties to adorn. Some were more comfortable than others. They went through another photo shoot in order to see if under all the layers of make-up stood natural beauty. The answer was yes, they all remained innately stunning, but beauty remains in the eye of the beholder, the beholders in this case were a panel of judges made up of the McGregor sisters, Fiona Craig (owner of Fusion Models CT) and who woulda thunk it - Cokey Falkow, ladies and gentlemen. Most of the ladies if not all had no clue who he was. I had the priviledge of seeing him perform live at Zula Bar one lovely Cape Town evening at a C.O.M.E. show. He's one of South Africa's top comedians and added a little somethin' somethin' to the brighten up the show. It was interesting seeing Cokey, with tattoo's covering his arm and black trendy varnish covering his nails, sitting next to three ultra elegant women. I hope he stays. There's nothing better than a comedian featuring front and centre in a modelling competition.

So the models stood before the panel, each strutting their stuff, striking a pose on a rotating floor wheel…those models sure are brave…I suppose balance is also key in the industry…can't have people falling off the ramp too often. The 15 were chosen and the rest were sent on their merry way. The were all stunning in my opinion but we can't all be models now can we; in the words of Cokey Falkow, “Life's tough, get a helmet.”

I felt the McGregor sisters came off as awefully scripted though; hopefully that sore point improves as the show proceeds. Otherwise, I look forward to the next episode and I wanna wanna wanna win the US$1,000,000 so bad. If you do too, you need to register by texting your ID number to 39544 (Don't ask me how much it costs, I figured it would all be worth it in the end) and stay tuned.
