New mobile electricity payments improve service

The Powertime service, which enables customers of Eskom and all major municipalities in South Africa to buy prepaid electricity tokens from their phones or computers, has added a new 2.0.1 iOS application and a new version of its award-winning website service. The application is available for all iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch users from Apple iTunes App Store.

The service now includes kWh and cost usage statistics and graphs. It also features a 'Virtual Meter', which enables the user to have an estimate of credit left on the meter (based on purchase history with Powertime) and to receive low credit alarms, based on parameters the user can set. This new functionality should prove helpful to users who, by not paying attention to the credit left on their Prepayment meter, run out of electricity.

"By introducing our these services across our web and Apple iOS application services, we believe it will improve customer experience, while contributing to more responsible usage of electricity in South Africa, thereby supporting the South African Energy conservation Program" says Ereeza Ryland, Powertime chief marketing officer. "We will generalize these features across all our applications, such as BlackBerry and Android operating systems, in the coming months."
