Whisky festival features new taste sensation

Pyott's Salticrax will take ownership of the inaugural Sensory Zone at the fifth FNB Whisky Live Festival, which takes place from the 31 October - 2 November in Cape Town and the 7 - 9 November 2007 in Gauteng.

This annual event showcases whisky from tasting workshops to sampling opportunities and caters to the whisky connoisseur as well as the novice, predominantly in the 25 - 45 age groups.

For the first time, Whisky Live has included the Sensory Zone - a dedicated food pairing area which highlights tastes that combine well with whisky, such as salmon, oysters, chocolate and cheese. Attendees can visit the Salticrax Sensory Zone to experiment with matching these foods to their preferred whisky in order to create different taste sensations.

Salticrax will incorporate lively branding and design in the Sensory Zone to create a self-contained environment where visitors can relax and enjoy an original taste experience.

"This will emphasise the association between indulging in a Salticrax snack with a variety of toppings and enjoying your favourite tipple to reinforce the socialising element," says Sian Loehrer, Pyotts senior brand manager.

The Salticrax branding will include designer pictures of exotic Salticrax snacks with creative whisky-related quotes. A dedicated Salticrax stand will also be incorporated into the Sensory Zone with a chef on hand to create delicious combinations from a range of ingredients, on request from guests.

"The profile of Whisky Live was a natural fit for the Salticrax brand. The festival has grown in stature in South Africa and the sophisticated, stylish event is attracting consumers outside of the traditional whisky drinker. The new whisky drinker includes a younger market, with a particular emphasis on the 'black diamond' segment, as well as growing interest amongst women," adds Loehrer.
