Industry wins food label feud

The health department would shelve plans to label certain foodstuffs as non-essential for a healthy diet in the upcoming regulations on food labelling and advertising, it has announced, succumbing to pressure from the food industry.

Antoinette Booyzen, the assistant director for regulatory nutrition, said that the department was investigating other options, such as a suitable nutrient profiling model for South Africa, to address the industry's concern.
