Saatchi sails off with V&A account

Saatchi & Saatchi has been awarded the V&A Waterfront account after a heated battle that began several months ago among 29 agencies. "This is a wonderful opportunity for Saatchi & Saatchi to partner the V&A Waterfront business in the lead up to the 2010 World Cup. At 22 million visitors a year, the Waterfront is the most visited location in Africa - receiving even more visitors than the pyramids at Giza," says Ian Young, Saatchi & Saatchi MD (Cape).

According to Young, the client-appointed pitch consultant interviewed 29 agencies made up of full service and specialist agencies that had shown interest in the business, whittled this list down to 11 agencies which presented credentials in September to the V&A marketing team, reduced it to five for an intensely competitive round of creative pitches, and finally eliminated two more agencies last week.

Comments Saatchi & Saatchi CEO Gail Curtis: "I am particularly proud of this win and this is hugely satisfying for us as we've been unable to compete in any of the big account pitches on Sasol, MTN or Absa recently due to conflicts with existing clients."

Saatchi & Saatchi has won in excess of R60-million in billings this year and added several new clients to its list.

"A big win like this ultimately reflects well on all of our clients, motivating our teams to provide great ideas and even better service and is welcomed on the back of our new business wins of Markham, Woolworths Foodstops, Wimpy at Engen 1Stops, Azzaro and One2One this year," concludes Young.
