"I witnessed some fascinating debates during judging week, with juries drawn from diverse disciplines from around the world," said D&AD president Dick Powell. "It's great that D&AD Black Pencils have been awarded in Magazine & Newspaper Design - this is a new category that recognises just how tough that job is, and Online, a category that continually reinvents itself."
The night also saw 54 D&AD Yellow Pencils awarded for work that sets new benchmarks in creative excellence. The D&AD Global Awards - the most prestigious ceremony in the world for creative practitioners - recognises the very best in design, advertising and creative communication around the world, and are judged the world's leading creative practitioners.
Leo Burnett London went home with the largest collection of Yellow Pencils last night, winning awards in Viral, Direct and Digital Crafts categories for its youth-targeted public awareness campaign, 'Cameraphone' for the Department of Transport, UK.
Gaming's first Yellow Pencils were awarded to Cake for 'Nintendogs' and Capcom for 'Resident Evil 4'.
Other double Pencil winners include Apple Computer in Product Design (iPod (with Video) and Nano); BBH in Television & Cinema Crafts ('Mayfly' for Vodafone) and Radio ('Killer Katy' for ITV); DDB London in Press Advertising ('Beans/Jigsaw/Cat/Toilet Paper' for Harvey Nichols). 'Tupperzick' for 3 Mobile won two of the five D&AD Yellow Pencils awarded in Television & Cinema Crafts, and 'Balls' for Sony picked up two Yellow Pencils in Television & Cinema Advertising.
Australian actor Jason Donovan played a starring role in another double Yellow Pencil winner, as HOST/The Glue Society (Integrated Advertising) and HOST/The Glue Society/NetX (Interactive Viral Advertising) were awarded for its work for Virgin Mobile Australia. Three times-nominated 'noitulovE', by Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO for Guinness, won a Yellow Pencil in Television & Cinema Crafts.
