Changes on the Learning Channel

Things are changing at the SABC Learning Channel. When the Learning Channel was sold to Johnnic Communications in 2003, William Smith agreed to continue presenting for a few more years, but with the implementation of the new Further Education and Training curriculum, Smith has decided it's time to start stepping aside.

Smith has gone from preparing students for Matric Physical Science and Maths to directing Learning Channel's educational TV broadcasts and its packages of video lessons.

Although he may not be doing the regular, term-time broadcasts, he will still be onscreen during the April, July and September school holidays when he will be presenting special phone-in and revision programmes in Physical Science.

On Saturday 18 February at 9.30am the Learning Channel on SABC3 will broadcast a
special live show in which Penny Vinjevold, Deputy Director General of the National Department of Education for Grades 10 to 12, will answer questions about the implementation of the new Grade 10 curriculum.

Daily broadcasts:
Monday: English with Janet Unterslak
Tuesday: Mathematics with Moira Clarke
Wednesday: Biology with Cathy Hastie
Thursday and Friday: Science with Peter Glover

The Learning Channel broadcasts these subjects into schools and homes across the country between 9.30am and 11.00am, after which they take questions from learners on the subject of the day until noon.
