Concordia Primary and Secondary School in Knysna is a R23-million project that saw the construction of ninety new modular classrooms. This five-month project involved clearing of land, removing 25,000 cubic metres of earth and the laying of electrical, sewerage and water connections.

Kwikspace units were then assembled onsite providing classrooms, offices as well as staff rooms and paved walkways between the units.

A rewarding project

Comments Leon Du Plessis, Kwikspace's regional sales manager Western Cape, "Pupils started moving into the first classrooms in the beginning of the school year and continued to do so on a daily basis as more and more classrooms became available. In total 2500 learners were accommodated. There was much elation and emotion when we finally handed this project over to the school at the end of April 2013. Last month at final site inspection, one teacher came and thanked me, having patiently waited for this moment for the past seven years."

Further afield The Kensington Heideveld project delivered forty classrooms respectively to schools in the Kensington and Heideveld regions. Kwikspace completed both projects in record time which also involved providing services from the ground up. Kensington received their factory built classrooms within ten weeks and Heideveld within eight weeks of the project's inception.

A little closer to Cape Town, Sophakama in Du Noon informal settlement took delivery of their forty new classrooms at the end of May 2013. Comments Du Plessis, "We had a very clear brief: no soccer field, no school." This 10-week project was a challenging one as 25,000 cubes of earth had to be imported, compacted and commissioned and Kwikspace had to work within the peripheral area of the new soccer field, leaving it intact. The result was 40 new ready delivered classrooms and structures placed on 3000 sqm of paving and of course a great soccer field!"

Says Du Plessis, "Our ability to provide comfortable, affordable classrooms with turn-key solutions in the shortest of delivery times makes Kwikspace a sensible choice for projects such as these".
