Conference to explore creativity as a currency

The Creative Currencies Conference will take place in Johannesburg from 6 to 8 August 2013 at the UJ Arts Centre, University of Johannesburg. Presented by the Arts & Culture Trust (ACT) and University of Johanesburg (UJ) Arts & Culture, the conference aims to develop, inspire and enable the creative sector, by sharing information with industry stakeholders.

Presentations to supplement programme

The 2013 programme will address individuals, businesses and organisations involved in trade and commerce in the field of arts and culture, as well as those who wish to interface with and explore this within their own disciplines and sectors.

Case studies and presentations concerned with economic, artistic, cultural and technological aspects of trade and exchange are sought to supplement the conference programme, which is entitled "Creative Currencies: accessing opportunities in an expanding marketplace".

Arts professionals, business delegates, representatives of emerging or semi-established arts, culture and heritage organisations, as well as individuals involved in collectives and collaborations, are invited to submit proposals to present case studies.

The conference content manager and advisory committee will review and select case studies for presentation. Presentations are to be no longer than 30 minutes. Applications should include the major aspects that will be addressed, and a detailed description of the technical requirements for the presentation. Proposals of no more than 600 words may be submitted to Rahiem Whisgary at az.gro.tca@meihar by no later than 7 June 2013.

Partnerships and support

This year's conference has attracted participation and support from a number of influential players in the arts and culture space, including the European Union (EU), British Council, the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) network, Arterial Network South Africa and the Visual Arts Network of South Africa (VANSA).

A partnership with the Cultural Development Trust will see the conference include an expo component for the first time. The conference is supported by media partners SAfm, the Mail & Guardian and Classicfeel magazine; as well as Santam, Business and Arts South Africa (BASA), the SAMRO Foundation and Distell Foundation.
