#MusicExchange: Nic Billington releases music video for new single "You Get Me High"
After a string of successful chart-toppers, musical accolades, a critically- acclaimed debut album and, more recently, a number one hit with "Wish You Well", Nic Billington is back serving us raspy vocals, falsetto harmonies and '80s undertones with the release of his brand-new single, "You Get Me High".
An unambiguous far cry from the singer’s previous releases, “You Get Me High” sees Billington venture into a darker and more mysterious space, epitomising the personal struggles and hardships that he has faced over the years.
I wanted this to be my first new release because it’s somewhat unexpected. Everything about this song is just so fresh and authentic – and it’s a great representation of who I am at this moment in time,” Billington explained. His musical influences include Labrinth, The Weeknd and Billie Eilish. He describes the new song as edgy, hypnotic and effortless. Co-written with Paul Gala and Mia van Wyk, the songs speak about taking chances on a new relationship – despite getting hurt in the past.
The single is accompanied by a stunning monochromatic visual that artistically showcases the singer in a variety of different scenarios – each with a dark twist.
Billington adds: “I really wanted to include a few unsettling moments throughout the video to create some tension or suspense. These scenes depict the dangers that come with falling in love.”
With a career trajectory aimed for the sky, Billington’s latest offering firmly reinforces his drive.
